Intimate Connections: The Clinically Proven Program for Making Close Friends and Finding a Loving Partner by David Burns: A copyrighted version of cognitive therapy, that has been useful to some members of the incel mailing list. Author does not fully understand involuntary celibacy, and he oversimplifies other stuff, but that's normal for a book. Worth a look.

The Shy Single: How To Overcome Shyness and Find Love by Bonnie Jacobson & Sandra J. Gordon. Rodale: 2004. ISBN 1405067284

Dying of Embarassment: Help for Social Anxiety & Phobia by Markway et al: An excellent primer on the social phobia diagnosis. Mentions dating but does not acknowledge the complexities of becoming and being incel. Includes a treatment program: paced breathing, cognitive therapy, a hierarchy of exposures. Medications are also discussed.

Social Phobia by John Marshall: Another great book, for laypeople and clinicians alike. Explains the social phobia diagnosis, explores possible genetic origins, and compares it to other anxiety disorders. Makes a great point about Alcoholics Anonymous: if you drink to self-medicate your social phobia, you probably can't go sober to an AA meeting and stand up in front of the group! Also points out that dating behaviours such as "the copulatory gaze" are difficult for social phobics.

Other resources

Sexual Anorexia: Overcoming Sexual Self-Hatred: ISBN 1-56838-144-1. "Read this book if you find yourself responding in angry or judgemental ways to other people's sexuality"

The Emotional Incest Syndrome: What to do when a parent's love rules your life by Dr. Patricia Love, Bantam Books, 1990.

The Joy of Not Being Married by Ernie Zelinski: How to be happy while not involved with a partner.

Intimacy and Solitude: Balancing closeness and independence by Stephanie Dowrick. Recommended by a list member.

The Dance of Anger and other books by Harriet Goldhor Lerner. Alana says: "very helpful, though not necessarily applicable to all incels".

What you can change & what you can't by Seligman. Recommended by a mailing list member: "Doesn't deal specifically with incel but it covers shyness & social phobia.  Worth a look, the info is up-to-date, clear and realistic."

Sexpectations: Women Talk Candidly About Sex And Dating, by R. Louis. "The author interviews a series of women to find out what they think about men, how they like to be approached, and what they think about sex. The ladies liked confidence, but not cockiness. They do like to be treated nicely ( i.e. sincere, good listener, honest ), but not if it is done out of desperation. That is the paradox of success with women, according to the author. They do like courting, flirting, being approached, et cetera, again as long as it is not done in a cocky way."

Skin Deep is a web site and book by Dr. Ted Grossbart. Highly recommended if you have any sort of skin problem.

http://theplayerspage.com/index.html : "I found this page that has a lot of interesting things to say about meeting women"

Neuro-linguistic Programming - these techniques are controversial but may be useful, particularly regarding the advice about breaking the 'Rules' we have internalised.
http://www.getgirls.com is an NLP-influenced site with a bad reputation for spamming, and a lot of sexism, but you might find it helpful...

Overkill : Mass Murder and Serial Killing Exposed by Alan James Fox, Jack Levin, James Alan Fox. (This is relevant because the media often highlight the celibacy or loneliness of multiple murderers.) A quote from the book: "the typical serial killer is intelligent, socially and sexually competent, a first- or second-born child, and a skilled worker. He lives with a partner, is mobile, drives a relatively new car, and follows his crime in the media. Contrary to popular mythology, he is not a nomad or a recluse and hardly ever uses a firearm."
